Creating a game like My Summer Love: Memories called for a game engine that was uniquely suited to our needs. Standard engines like Unreal, Ren'Py, or Unity simply didn't cut it. We required complete control over memory and multithreaded parallel processing to load videos in real time and dynamically generate text. So, at Soul Shell, we embarked on a journey to develop our own engine from the ground up. Meet the RetroSense Engine, built using C++ and powered by the following open-source libraries:
